Bray

[edit]

I agree with your comments in the edit line. See Mallow also. It's truly bizarre having Bearlachas of the Anglicised forms of Irish placenames. Only in Ireland. zoney talk 22:28, 9 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Thanks. It seems some have made it their their task to accept every corruption that foreign and native government has imposed on Ireland over the centuries. But let's just keep working on it. And I hope we can also get the ga: going, as there is really little real writing going into it. Of course, the placename thing runs on Ballina, Castleconnell, Gort, Newry, etc - the en: list of Irish place names is more accurate, even before my own contributions! Meabhar 22:09, 10 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I'd like to do more on ga:, but find it hard going, as my Irish is reasonably good, but not fully on the tip of my tongue at this stage. Thus it takes much longer to write on ga: for me. The other bigger factor is that I have my work cut out for me here on en: - there's just so much to do. An entire encyclopaedia could be written about Ireland alone! zoney talk 00:53, 11 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Well, things are looking up a little on ga:, and I see you've been contributing to it too. We have a spot of bother now there about Oileán Mhanann, or Oileán Mhanainn, among other things! It looks pretty even batting. Meabhar 17:04, 23 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Interwiki of user pages

[edit]

Hi, if you want to make it easier for people to go to your user page on ga: you can just add ga:Úsáideoir:Meabhar to your User page here, and that will create an interwiki link there, just the same as on any article page. (Likewise you can add en:User:Meabhar to your leathanach úsáideora to link back here.) --Angr/comhrá 12:00, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Dun Bun Gallimhe?

[edit]

Should'nt it be Dun Beal Gallimhe? Fergananim

My understanding is that the proper Irish for the Corrib river is Abhainn na Gaillimhe or an Ghaillimh, and that the old name for the ciy is Bun Abhann na Gaillimhe or as R. O'Flaherty has it 'Bun Gaillimhe'. The lake is today known in English as 'Lough Corrib', or in Irish 'Loch Coiribe', but I understand that that is a corruption of 'Loch Oirbse' or 'Loch Oirbsen'.Meabhar 23:02, 7 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Irish place names

[edit]

Hi; I would question the accuracy of many of these place names. Any qualms yourself?Fergananim 01:38, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, maybe you can tell me which ones on which list! Then we can talk. Meabhar 23:08, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
